Expressive figuration meets introspective materiality.
Our exhibition project CONTEMPLACIÓN Y ATAQUE brings two of the best-known Spanish post-war painters face to face: Antonio Saura (1930-1998) and Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012). Despite their different artistic approaches, both artists are often mentioned in the same breath down to the present day. As far back as 1959, Otto van de Loo presented the two autodidacts in a double exhibition in Munich after they had surprised the art public at the 1958 Venice Biennale. Many other solo exhibitions followed - the basis for a lifelong exchange, particularly with Saura. A large part of the paintings, paper works and graphics shown in the current exhibition originate from this close collaboration, which was also central for the Munich based artist group SPUR.

On occasion of the ART WEEKEND 2016 Prof. Dr. Carla Schulz-Hoffmann is going to give an introduction to the exhibition on the 25th of June at 4 p.m.
